General Comments

  1. Shoes and socks or nylons must be worn at all times, both in school and on
the playground. Certain exceptions may be made for Physical Education.
  2. The school may restrict the wearing of shorts, skirts, jumpers, and dresses
due to changing weather after the date of October 31 in a given year and prior
to the date of April 1.
  3. The following are NOT ALLOWED: denim pants or shorts; bike shorts
(not even for gym); sandals; cargo pants or cargo shorts in any color; body
piercings (except for earrings for girls only); visible tattoos; hip huggers or
    “sagging” pants.
  4. Student should bring a clean set of athletic-soled shoes for use in Physical
Education. It is preferable to bring in a set of clean shoes in addition to
the student’s school shoes in order to maintain a clean gym floor. The P.E.
teacher may also request that students bring a change of gym clothes. Such
requirements will be announced ahead of time, with reasonable stipulations
about the types of clothing that will constitute acceptable gym wear. Not wearing appropriate shoes or gym clothes may result in a grade deduction not
to exceed 25% of the total P.E. grade computation.
  5. Students who do not meet conditions of the dress code may be returned
home to dress properly. Repeat offenders (for instance—untucked shirts or
improper pants) may receive a lunch detention.
  6. Teachers and administrators have the right to ask students to change, remove
clothing, or issue other appropriate consequences based on an item’s overall
effect on the learning environment for reasons including (but not limited
to) excessive or flashy make-up and jewelry, writing on one’s skin, articles
that may pose a hazard (such as dangling earrings or neckwear – boys and
girls!), and general modesty of appearance. Teachers and administrators may
exercise appropriate discretion in applying all dress code standards.

Color Days
The last Friday of each month will be designated as COLOR DAY, with all
students being able to attend out of uniform. Denim, t-shirts, and sport jerseys are
acceptable as long as they contain non-offensive content. Additional non-dress
code days may be added with stipulations (for $1 to charity, dress in school spirit
colors, etc.) No sandals, flip-flops or open-toed shoes.

School Spirit Day
Students may dress in a nice pair of jeans—no holes, patches, or stains—wearing
at least one additional piece of apparel that bears the colors (green and white),
insignia, or name of St. Jude Catholic School, St. Jude Falcons, etc. No sandals,
flip-flops or open-toed shoes.

Dress Up Day
Students may dress “above” dress code, indicating more formal slacks, shirts,
dresses, skirts, and shoes. Students should not wear denim on any article of
clothing. Boys should wear collared shirts, tucked in.

Field Trips
Students and parents should pay attention to the instructions given for each
individual trip. For most trips we will request that students wear khaki bottoms
with the green St. Jude polo, to present an image of uniformity and identity in
public contexts.
